Meet Dr. Nidhi Patel
Nidhi Patel, DO
Board Certified in Family Medicine
Growing up, I spent much time with my parents at their medical practice. You would find me in the corner of my dad’s office, sitting on the spare office chair. It was a contortion of cracked pleather and aluminum, a tad small for an adult. But I remember that chair feeling enormous, with my legs dangling above the ground as I spun and rocked. The chair also gave a great view of my dad as he talked to his patients. I watched as he explained the road ahead for them, demystifying their upcoming surgeries and treatment plans. I saw furrowed brows and tight shoulders melt into calm understanding. I heard his voice, slow and measured; smooth out the patient’s worries and uncertainties. Witnessing my dad’s service and devotion to his community helped to ignite my passion for medicine.
At age 14, I moved from India to the DFW Metroplex. I went to high school In Keller and did my undergraduate studies at Baylor University. After earning my medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, I completed my residency in Dallas at Methodist Charlton Medical Center, where I served as Chief Resident, and trained further in integrative medicine. During my training, I started to seek out a practice model that would allow me to build lasting relationships with my patients and be a steadfast advocate for their well-being.
I met the Paradigm Family Health team during a rotation at the tail end of my residency, and felt right at home! This Direct Primary Care model allows me the privilege of time with my patients. I need that time to better understand all the small, vital details of my patients and what their individualized plan looks like. Fluent in Gujarati and Hindi, with a working knowledge of Spanish, I value connecting with patients from diverse backgrounds and creating an environment where they feel comfortable and cared for.
My parents still live in India, where dad continues to run his surgical practice (the chair is still parked in the office corner), and my mom works alongside him running a private pathology lab. I met my fiancé Shameer while I was in med school, and he has been my biggest supporter in everything I pursue. He currently works as a family medicine PA in Keller, and we will be getting married in December 2024! This chapter of my life consists of a lot of new beginnings and I am ready for it all with arms wide open!
